Workplace Violence Prevention: Strengthening Response Through Training
To strengthen workplace safety and ensure employees are prepared to respond effectively to incidents, the Workplace Violence Prevention (WPVP) team recently dedicated two days to hands-on collaboration and facilitation in preparation for the new Workplace Violence Responder Training: In-Person De-Escalation course.
Developed by a systemwide Workplace Violence Prevention Healthcare Work Group, this training is designed for employees who are most likely to encounter workplace violence and are responsible for taking action during incidents. The program focuses on building practical de-escalation skills, reinforcing safe response strategies, and increasing confidence in high-risk situations.
WPVP team members played a key role in developing the training modules, which will be delivered both online through the UC Learning Center and in person by WPVP trainers. By actively training together, the team tested and refined realistic scenarios and interactive exercises to ensure the content is relevant, engaging, and directly applicable in the workplace.
This focused preparation helps ensure that employees leave the training with clear, actionable tools to recognize risk, de-escalate situations, and support safer outcomes for themselves and others.
The Workplace Violence Responder Training series is slated to launch in July 2026.
